Yes there’s hype, yes there’s controversy, but at the heart of it, this film has a good story, well told, which is all
I ever want. It’s a strange one though. I watched it thinking ‘What’s the fuss?’ I then put its Oscar nominations and general good reviews down to the fact the subject matter is controversial and an “untrodden path” which is always guaranteed some level of extra interest. But once the final credits have rolled, something strange happens - you realise the heart of the film has stayed with you, and for me that’s what turns this film from being a good story, into a memorable event and a cleverly acted and directed piece of cinema. It really is a moving story with a lot to say. It deserves all the credit it gets.
