Why do they do it?

Someone explain to me why they do it? Why do soap stars think they are pop stars? Why do pop stars think they are sports stars? Why has Charlotte Church started doing comedy? I watched The Charlotte Church Show for the first time tonight, expecting good things after Channel 4’s big old ratings celebration from last week and the first thing that struck me was how wooden it was in so many parts. The comedy bits just didn’t work and just weren’t funny. Cringeworthy in too many places. And the hidden camera stuff just seemed to be a vehicle for showing just how comedic Charlotte could be… again. She is first and foremost a singer, and secondly someone with a big gob. So play to your strengths. Let her sing and let her chat. Because when she did eventually chat with Patsy Kensit is was bearable, and verged on competent. But this lasted all of 5 minutes before we were back into the scripted comedy stuff again. There is a chance she could be good, and the show too could be good if it was rethought and gave her more a chance to relax, as opposed to show off. She’s better when she’s natural, and scripted bad comedy isn’t natural to her or any of the viewers.
