As I’ve said on here a few times, I was disappointed with the opening episodes of season 3 of Doctor Who. Martha did nothing for me, and the daleks did my head in. This meant I became a little less than enthusiastic and recorded every episode, but didnt bother watching them. Until now. And Im happy to say I was sooo wrong to stop watching. The last two linked episodes Human Nature and The Family Of Blood were actually some of the best Doctor Who Ive ever seen. Genuinely. The story was thoughtful, clever, had heart and all still remained true to the spirit of the doctor. It felt like a feature film. Throw in there Jessica Stevenson - already a favourite after my obsession with her as Daisy in Spaced and youve got a couple of gems of episodes. Jessica Stevenson really convinced in every way, and her acting made Martha look worse than ever. The story itself showed real orginality (if you ignore the standard Doctor Who drones chasing the Doctor thing) and had a huge emotional resonance. The only disappointment was when he didnt drag Jessica Stevenson and the boy from Love Actually in the Tardis and throw Martha out at the end. Then I’d have been happy. Now Im off to watch the rest of the series… I hope it maintains the standard…
