My Local

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 19:32

I’m lucky. Not only do I live in a quiet, classically English village, with beautiful scenery and a friendly community, I am also within walking distance of a warm, cosy, welcoming local pub. Ye Olde Windsor Castle has been my local since before I moved to Bookham, and since I started going there its been through three landlords. The last ones reputation was dubious at best and the pub became slightly less appealing. Recently however the new landlord has put it right back up there in the appealing stakes with good food, good service and a relaxing friendly atmosphere. (Being a bit of a history freak, I also like the fact that Henry VIII stopped there for refreshments when he was out hunting hundreds of years back.) It all adds up to being one of my favourite places to chill with family and friends and is somewhere I would recommend to anyone in the area.
