Doesn't 'English' count?

Part of the GCSE ENGLISH course I am teaching requires me to help the student understand poetry. This is fine. However the fact that the poets selected by the exam board are from Egypt, Guyana, Wales, Nigeria, Scotland, Iraq and 2 from America I think is insulting to the many great English poets there have been and are. The exam board's political correctness with the English syllabus (not Eng Lit) means the kids also end up ignorant of their own culture.
